Items can be crafted after the player completes the introductory quest for the starting town's Blacksmith NPC. He and his cousins in every town provide the full crafting menu (lower level items are hidden by default). Despite the use of a recipe item in the opening quest, the menu already contains the recipes for Rare and Epic items from level 16 onwards.
Crafting a weapon or armor piece usually requires a base item, Powders (or Extracts or Crystals) and one or two types of enemy materials. Accessory crafting requires the base accessory and a quantity of Skill Fragments. Each class is able to craft all of his or her equipment as well as high level Epic skill-enhancing accessories.
Through the crafting menu players can also refine gem Lustres and Powders into better quality versions using Octagonal Water.
