The Extractor is a piece of technology from the age of the Ancients which can take finished materials such as weapons and armor and convert them back into their base elements. It is unknown at this point if accessories of any kind can be "extracted" for their base materials in this way, or if the extractor is based upon the monolith technologies which were used to create crests.

Regardless, using an extractor costs money, and your chances of success vary widely depending on several factors. The rarity of the item plays a factor, as does the amount of enhancement. A normal rarity item has virtually no chance of producing usable reagents unless enhanced, while an enhanced magical item usually produces an amount of comet dust equal to its total enhancement bonus. It is unknown whether enhancement through sparks also plays a factor in determining reagent yield, but such is highly likely.

A normal rarity item has virtually no chance of producing usable reagents unless enhanced, while an enhanced magical item usually produces either comet dust or a finished Geode. Enhancement through sparks does not seem to increase the probability of successful extraction by itself, but may have a positive effect on extraction yield. It would seem that enhanced weapons produce greater yields of comet dust and more frequently produce geodes than do enhanced armors.
